SUFFERING IS CAUSED BY OTHERS, NOT THE CONDITION

(Although AS as a condition does entail difficulties in communication and interaction).

In my own time and space I am the very personification of grace, style, elan, and effortless ease. Then people turn up.

I suppose we are indeed social beings.

The annoying - actually, depressing - thing is to have posted this comment, in the hope that people might read and think on, only to find many making no allowance whatsoever. I can only presume that they presume themselves to be already so kind and understanding that notions of harm and ill-treatment simply cannot apply to them.

As the song "Wand'rin' Star" puts it:

"Mud can make you prisoner, and the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry."

Or make you very angry indeed. Some people just refuse to make the slightest effort at accommodation, leaving the autistic person making all the running.
