Life's Lessons

A key lesson I have learned in life is this: Out of 50 things you may do a day at least 150 won't work. Whilst many people would give up in face of endless frustration, those of us who struggle with the simplest of things let alone the most difficult have no option but to keep going until something works. It's a matter of survival. Such hard experience in face ofthe simplest of tasks develops the praiseworthy character traits of determination, perserverence, and resilience over time, all of which prove to be of immense value when it comes to solving the more difficult problems of life. A lot of people will laugh at you as you make the daftest of errors when attempting the simplest of tasks, making fun of you when you fail. And when you succeed on the big issues they will say you are lucky. Another key lesson I have learned is to ignore the detractors. They have no idea.

Basically, having to struggle so much with the simple things in life means that you develop the ability to persevere and persist, carrying that spirit on to address and accomplish the complex ones.

You learn the virtue of discernment.

Have the confidence to trust your own instincts and judgement. You are a lot smarter than you may know. But not so smart as to know everything. Pay attention to what others say, but not too much. A few will offer insights and criticisms you can learn from. Be prepared to listen to them. Most won’t. Know the difference between the two. And pay more attention to those from whom you may learn than to those who annoy and irritate in their ignorance.

Ration your energy. Economy is the watchword.
