PROCESSING INFORMATION

This is how it feels processing information without internal editors and filters, constantly running into external checks, barriers, and instructions which feel utterly alien. Challenging, frustrating, and exhausting. Everyday social situations can be an ordeal.

Imagine, then, having to deal with people who seek to control and curtail speech, imposing filters of their own. Processing information is difficult enough for autistic people without having to tailor your communication and expression so as to conform to the narrow parameters of others. It is, of course, wise to learn to temper one's speech in a social setting. There are social norms and parameters that are good to know and adhere to. Only the most oafish of people think it OK to 'tell the truth' regardless of others' feelings and emotions. At the same time, when those others insist on parameters so tight that you have to watch every single word you utter, eliminating many or most of the words you most want to say, it is time to spring the trap with some blunt truths.
