Going Round in Circles

I’ve done this at job interviews. Not quite sixteen times, mind, but too many times for interviewers to have much faith in my problem-solving abilities. I swear that the last time really wasn’t my fault, with the building having two doors that looked like entrances. Fair enough, I only saw the one door and went through it. Instead of coming to a reception I walked on through a hallway and a passage before entering a main room where the panel of three who were preparing to interview me were sitting. They took it in good heart and directed me to reception. I walked around in the passageway for a minute or so before walking back into the main room. All the doors and corridors looked the same to me, which isn’t surprising because that’s precisely what they were – the same. I received repeated directions to reception, and promptly went round in circles to return to the interview room. At this point, the woman in charge got up and led me to where I ought to have been. Given that the job was all about directing visitors in a museum this was not an encouraging start.

I didn’t get the job. But I got another amusing tale to tell.
